Congratulations to Foundation Risk Partners’ Chief Legal Officer and Executive Vice President, Thomas J. Leek, for being named as a member of House Leadership and his appointment as Chair to two committees in the Florida House of Representatives: The Pandemics & Public Emergencies Committee and Redistricting Committee. Chairing two committees is nearly unheard of – it demonstrates Speaker Chris Sprowls’ faith in Tom and respect for his proven leadership in dealing with difficult issues.
As Chairman of the newly created Pandemics & Public Emergencies Committee, Tom is tasked with leading the State’s response and future planning for issues related to COVID‐19 and emergency management to prepare Florida today for future threats.
Every ten years, based on the census, the Legislature redraws the districts from which Florida voters elect their state representatives, state senators and members of the U.S. House of Representatives. As Chairman of the Redistricting Committee, Tom will oversee the redrawing of congressional and state legislative districts to adjust for uneven growth rates in different parts of the state to help determine the reapportionment of districts.
In the November 5, 2020, House Structure and Leadership report, Speaker Sprowls stated that the newly formed Leadership Team shares his commitment to pursue good public policy and to protect the integrity of the institution of the Florida House.
Tom has more than 22 years’ experience working in Labor and Employment and Complex Commercial litigation. He was first elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 2016, where he most recently served as the Chair for the Public Integrity and Ethics Committee and Vice Chair of the Select Committee on the Integrity of Research Institutions.
We are most proud of Tom’s continued roles on Florida’s House Leadership Team and on FRP’s Executive Leadership Team and wish him well in these new respected positions.
